Anoop Virk's Story:
There are wounds that don't appear on the surface and are deeper and more painful than anything that bleeds. Depression goes deeper than feelings of sadness and loneliness. It's living in a body that fights to survive but a mind that wants to die.
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act and as a result, it impacts the choices we make in our lives. Mental health is important for all ages, cultures, and genders.
I've not only seen my loved ones struggle with depression and anxiety but have fought my own battles. It's not an easy fight especially when you're up against the cultural stigmas around mental health in the South Asian community.
For those who are fighting, I want you to know that it's a battle you don't have to fight alone. Surround yourself with good people and love yourself & heal yourself.
