Ravjot Mehak's Story:

I grew up in a family where mental issues definitely existed, my extended family even has a history of serious mental issues such as aggression disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, and so many more. Yet my family truly never had these issues medically recognized, which made it all the more difficult when I was faced with my own issue of post-traumatic stress disorder after being unable to make peace with the diagnosis of chronic illness. It took some time, and a variety of approaches, but I was able to convince my family to let me see a psychologist, and though that ended up not being the right answer for me, it did open a gate for other family members to seek help in a way that wasn't shameful. For that, I am thankful and proud that the Asian community is slowly but surely opening their minds to mental illness
